The demo for Obey the Insect God is out and available now on Steam! Get it while it’s hot!

Can’t believe we are at the point where the demo is out! This insane journey is nearing the end!

  • Steam Page is Live!

    1/15/26

Hey all! Major update! The game is basically 99.9% completed at this point and the Steam page is live! Go and wishlist if you wish!

There is also going to be a demo that will be released in February and the game will be a part of NextFest on Steam.

After 6 years of working on this thing I can’t believe I’m finally at the finish line. What a thing.

    More info to come!

  • Game is Nearly Finished!

    10/10/25

Major updates! I’ve been absent the last few months because I’ve been completely heads down on the game. Well happy to announced I’ve hit major major milestones and the finish line is in site!

First off all acting and animation has been recorded and tested and is good to go inside of the game including all the NPCs and cut scenes!

Then I also had the entire script translated into Spanish, Portuguese (Br), Korean and Japanese. And as of this evening I have finished testing all the languages in the game and that is good to go too!

But that’s not all! I’ve gotten the game pushed out now to a couple of play testers and things are going good so far! One play tester is even using a old 1070 gtx graphics card and the game is running well on it! This is wonderful news as it means the game should be playable on a very large range of older systems as well as new ones.

Next step after this is to continue play testing ad nausem to fix any bugs that can be found, then getting things approved by Steam and starting to market things!

    This is crazy!!

My goal is to get the game out in the Spring of 2026, but I’m not holding myself to that as god only knows what further curve balls will get thrown towards me.

But in the meantime, very happy news all around. Wish me luck as I go in for the final push!

  • All Enemy Animations and Cut Scenes Done

    6/22/25

Big update! Worked with my wife and have now completed all animations for all enemies! And even bigger news that that – the placement of all cut scenes in the game is completed now too!

To think after this many years I am finally here – nearing the final stages of the game. The next steps are to get the voice acting down and to record the NPC animations for one last actress – then it’s play testing time.

And when play testing is completed – it’s time to start thinking about figuring out how to release this damn thing. What a feeling.

I have a bunch of stories about struggles I’ve been having with the engine as well – specifically maxing out the Memory Pools in Godot 3 which is causing the engine to crash in the editor. Of course this starts to happen right as I’m within reach of the end of the game.

I think I’ve found a way around it however – at least for the moment (basically just deleting un-needed animations) – but it’s tense! Keep your fingers crossed the engine can hold it together just as we finish the last parts here.

Wish me luck! On to the acting portion of the job!

As always check out video clips from the game in my social media profiles linked to below.

    Thanks!

  • Music Completed!

    4/30/25

Big update! The music is completed for the game and it’s all setup to trigger throughout the levels. Wowza that was a lot of work!

A more or less total of 54 songs are in the game, mainly made by me randomly futzing around with a keyboard and playing with various VST synths and EZDrummer drum machine. I’m pretty happy with it!

On to the next project which is going to be making updates to the scripts and trying to get the cut scenes going – things will be put in place with some place holder animations and audio though. Hope is to plunk the real ones in once it’s recorded, but that at that point everything will be already coded out and ready to go.

Check some of the music on my instagram page! (linked in the footer)

  • Background Sounds and Optional Dialog Part 1

    3/22/25

    Hello all!

A mini update for game progress. Happy to say I’ve setup the first step for being able to trigger optional dialog on NPCs when you walk up to them and press the action button. This probably sounds like nothing too impressive but it’s was surprisingly complicated to pull off based on the way I’m doing progression of the optional dialog on NPCs.

Outside of that I also went through all the rooms of the game and added additional background and environmental sounds. It’s actually a somewhat small and fast thing to do (only took me a few days) but it really adds something to the environment! A certain level of immersion if you will.

Now that these items are done I’m having my wife Josie review and leave comments on the script for the game and then I’ll update that and get started and placing the actual cut scenes and (currently temporary) recordings and text for the scenes.

While I’m waiting for her to finish that up I’m probably going to start working on writing music! Exciting times!

  • Menus and Guides Completed

    3/5/25

Progress continues at a fast pace! Went through and put together all of the menus and guides for the game.

It’s surprising how complicated doing something as simple as a pop up window or clicking around menus can actual be on the back end.

Next up is doing more adjustments to the game script and writing out hints that will pop up on load screens as well as certain puzzle rooms.

Things are moving at a good speed now!

  • Map and Fast Travel Completed

    2/15/25

Hello all! A quick update on some further progress with the game!

The last month or so I’ve been working on building out a map feature for the game that will let the player track their progress and also allow them to fast travel from save points. Happy to announce the work is done and we have a functioning map and fast travel!

This ended up being a lot more of a to-do then I had guessed (story of most of the game development) as I needed to come up with a scheme for being able to track where the player is , where the player has been and what items/secrets that player has picked up in a given room.

Overall a success though. On to the next thing!

  • Items and Boss Fight Tracking Complete

    1/11/2025

    Hello all!

Quickie update today – just finished being able to track and place all of the items the player can collect in the game as well as when boss fights and puzzles have been completed. Also updated a bunch of bugs.

Next step is building out the map that the game will use along with being able to teleport around at teleportation points!

    Onward and Upward!

  • Backgrounds Completed!

    December 19, 2024

Long time no see everyone! Big update to make today! After close to 9 months of work I have finally completed the backgrounds for all the rooms and levels in the game!

This is a step I’ve been dreading to for years as I wasn’t sure I could pull it off, but I’m happy to say after getting a flow of things the work is completed! What that also means is that I have a mostly functional came at this point too. Man what a journey.

We are coming onto 5 years since the start of the project in March of 2025 and after all this time I can say that I can finally see a light at the end of the tunnel. There is still a tremendous amount of work left to be done, but man is getting to this point an accomplishment.

Next steps from here are going to be recording some additional animations for a couple enemy types (my wife is going to be doing the recordings for those), then it’s fixing more bugs, make updates to sound effects, making music and then the next real big task is going to be working on cut scenes!

Exciting stuff ahead, looking forward to sharing more things as we progress!
